Grace Wang
Grace Wang is currently a junior at Williamsville East High School and co-founder of BFB’s new chess initiative, #One World Chess Club. She is also a member of Hidden716 and is currently a team leader. Grace is an accomplished chess player as she has participated in several national tournaments and has won both locally and nationally. She has also taught chess classes since she was 12 and has brought that passion and joy into creating the new chess club.
At school, Grace serves as Sports Editor of the newspaper club and as president and founder of East’s chess club. Additionally, she is affiliated with multiple youth volunteer organizations and volunteers on a regular basis. Grace has been a member of Greater Buffalo AYLUS since 2020, and has been Vice President for two years and is currently President. She has initiated and organized many new events which have attracted many people of different ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities. She plays for the Williamsville East High tennis team in which the team reached the New York State Girls Tennis Championships Final Four in 2023. Grace is also involved in music as she plays violin and piano where she was selected to participate in ECMEA and NYSSMA.
Also, Grace is passionate about her multilingual studies. As a second-generation Asian American, she finds great pride and joy in learning Chinese and staying connected to her roots. She passed HSK 5, the second-highest Chinese proficiency test, has attended Buffalo Chinese School for ten years, and has also studied six years of French in school.
Grace hopes to use her chess experience and strong bilingual skills to lead more initiatives to promote cultural diversity and inclusivity and connect people of different ethnicities and backgrounds through the game of chess.
